In the decade since it was created, Beau’s All Natural Brewing Company has always focused on its marketing in order to help its beers gain a foothold in that market. Consumers quickly responded and Beau’s has become a household name in Eastern Ontario and elsewhere. News from the Employment Services Centre of Prescott and Russell

Employment Services Centre of Prescott and Russell has just received funding to offer a joint federal-provincial program in order to help employers train their employees. Further information here:

This same Centre is also gearing up for two job fairs which have already gained notoriety. Almost all booths have now been reserved. The first job fair is slated for Rockland on March 15, 2015 (for Russell county) at the RiverRock Inn hotel. The second one will be held at l’École secondaire régionale catholique d’Hawkesbury on March 21, 2015 (for Prescott County). Details at:

Vankleek Hill to be featured on TFO

The Historical Society (Museum) often provides information and pertinent historical and recent information about our town. We have also held several walking tours again this year. A French TV documentary was produced about VKH and will air on TFO (Télévision franco-ontarienne) on September 17th, 7 p.m., with the second episode on December 17th, 7 p.m. The series is called Les jumelles.

High speed internet available to more homes

It has been years in the making: as of summer 2013, more homes in Eastern Ontario will have access to high speed internet, thanks to the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (EOWC), which spearheaded this effort. During a press conference held at the United Counties of Prescott and Russell in L’Orignal on June 26, 2013, proponents and partners of the project explained that 95% of the “South Nation” zone – some 1,200 km2 – will have access to this service, an additional estimated 12,000 homes and businesses. This project, called the Eastern Ontario Regional Network, was hailed as a step to economic prosperity for the whole region. For details, please click the following links:

Two more awards for Beau’s during the Gala d’excellence

Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co. garnered yet more awards at the recent Prescott and Russell Gala d’excellence. The craft brewery, which opened in July 2006, was nominated in four categories and was chosen in two: Community Participation Award and the Jury Award. Co-owner Steve Beauchesne stated there is no better honour than to get up in the morning to get to work « for this great community ». Held in Saint-Bernardin, the 11th edition of the Gala recognized top businesses within 11 categories; some outstanding businesses and individuals were presented with special awards. In all, 248 businesses were nominated for an award this year. Manon Séguin and Christian Marc Gendron provided musical entertainment during the meal. $34,000 allocated to Legault Greenhouses

Patrons will soon see some changes at Legault Greenhouses. Glengarry-Prescott-Russell M.P. Pierre Lemieux announced on October 26, 2012, that this business will receive over $34,000 from the Prescott-Russell Community Development Corporation (through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario), $29,000 of which will add a structure over some of its gardening products. The last $5,000 will be devoted to developing its website. Both Mr. Lemieux and Champlain Township Mayor Gary J. Barton congratulated the third-generation family business which will soon celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Beau’s named finalist at national gala

Vankleek Hill’s Beau’s All Natural Brewing Company was named as a finalist (business to consumer products) at a gala evening in Toronto, October 10th, 2012. The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) awards recognize « the spirit and contribution of entrepreneurs here and around the world ». (from The Financial Post, October 22, 2012)

Legault Mechanical sets up shop in L’Orignal

Champlain Township resident Philippe Legault has relocated his business to L’Orignal and hosted an open door on March 8, 2012. Legault Mechanical Inc. was founded in May 2010 and has grown to six employees, including the owner. The business is now located at 1001 John Street.

Vitality Team hosts Open House in Vankleek Hill

Members of the Vitality Team – individuals specialized in alternative medicine – hosted an Open House at the Lions Club medical centre on 42 Mill Street in Vankleek Hill, on Thursday, September 23rd, 2010. A dozen visitors listened to presentations and received a demonstration by the various health therapists specializing in Ayurvedic Indian head massage and craniosacral therapy, soft laser therapy and vibro-accoustic harp therapy.

Champlain Township setting for agri-food announcement

L’Orignal’s Ferme Kapra Farm was the backdrop for an Ontarian announcement, on Friday, September 10, 2010. Glengarry-Prescott-Russell M.P.P. Jean-Marc Lalonde announced the four-year Ontario Market Investment Fund Program is allocating $100,000.00 to promote local food (meats, a distribution system, the famed AgriTour, a local foods symposium, a thematic map) and marketing projects in Prescott and Russell as well as creating an agri-food officer. Mr. Lalonde recognized intense lobbying efforts from the United Counties’ Economic Development and Tourism Office, as well as those of the Union des cultivateurs franco-ontariens (UCFO) in the last two years to obtain this financing. Champlain Township Mayor Gary J. Barton, speaking on behalf of 2010 United Counties Warden Conrad Lamadeleine, also congratulated L’Orignal Packing for having received a Coup de Coeur prize during the very successful Foire gourmande Outaouais – Est ontarien, on August 29th, 2010.

2nd edition of the Tourist Welcome Day in Prescott-Russell

Thursday, June 24th, 2010, proved to be a travelling day for many people coming in Ontario at the provincial Tourist Information Centre in Chute-à-Blondeau. Hundreds of Québec visitors were greeted by information booths which some organizations and businesses had set up along the path leading to the main building. Many travellers – including some Rotary Club International members who had just attended a convention in Montréal – asked questions in regard to the attractions in Prescott and Russell. Some agreed to take the scenic route along County Road 17 to drive through the villages along the way. On this photo, the Lavoie family from the greater Montréal area made good use of the pamphlets available from the various organizations. Parents Robert Lavoie and Elaine L’Écuyer, along with siblings Natael and Noélie, spent a few moments at the Champlain Township booth before resuming their trip. The event was coordinated by the Prescott and Russell Economic Development and Tourism Office.

Something to munch on!

Friday, June 11th, 2010 was a special occasion for Luc Papineau and his partner, Kathy. Their respective business, Kathy’s Belly-Buster and the Snack Shack, were officially opened. The cantine offers various fast food staples while the Snack Shack sells certain bulk food items as well as ice cream cones. Mr. Papineau already has some expansion plans. The Member of Parliament for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell in Ottawa, Pierre Lemieux, was on hand and reminded attendees the importance of small and medium businesses. Champlain Township as well as the Vankleek Hill Business and Merchant Association were also represented.
