Champlain Township boasts diverse tourist attractions and recreational facilities in each of our four wards.

From our quaint Victorian and historical sites in Vankleek Hill, to the agro-tourism in West Hawkesbury, to the waterfront playgrounds and campgrounds in L'Orignal and Longueuil, Champlain Township has something for everyone.

GUIDED VISITS AT THE OLD JAIL
Location: 1023 Queen Street, L'Orignal

This former prison was opened in 1825 and shut down in 1998. Since then, Patrimoine L’Orignal-Heritage Longueuil has reopened the historic premises. Under the guidance of a coordinator, events are held throughout the year. A canopy and sound system in the courtyard allows various events to be held.

Seasonal hours: Wednesday through Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., plus fall weekends to Thanksgiving & by appointment for research
A former general store, the Vankleek Hill Museum was lovingly converted into a building which houses many artefacts and records from a bygone era. A portion also serves as a tourist information centre during the summer months.

The Vankleek Hill Farmers’ Market offers fresh local produce and locally raised meats, maple syrup, local honey, wood oven baked bread, homestyle baking, international foods, artisans and much more. WINTER CARNIVAL
Location: Vankleek Hill and L'Orignal
This year, events will be held during those few days in Vankleek Hill and L’Orignal. Many activities are being added to those which we know well : magic show, pickup and regular hockey, Vintage Ski Doo Run, show on ice, casino night, broomball, tug ‘o’ war, ice ice bar/sliding hill, scavenger hunt, bed races and more!

February 18, 2017 - L'Orignal
ONTARIO FAMILY FISHING EVENTS
Licence-free ice fishing in February!
Each year, the governement of Ontario presents two licence-free fishing events in order to encourage this sport as a family activity. Champlain Township ice fishing devotees will be able to go out on the ice for three licence-free days, from February 18 to 20, 2017 (all other fishing regulations still apply). Furthermore, a fishing derby has been announced for February 18, 2017, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.: it’s the second annual Harrison ice derby in L’Orignal.

For years, area visitors – and many from outlying areas – flock to most streets throughout the ward. The best deals are to be had EARLY in the morning! As a point of interest, our residents throughout the Township may organize their own garage sale sans permit, on that day.

JULY 1 CELEBRATIONS
Location: L’Orignal and Vankleek Hill

This annual day of festivities has become a crowd favourite thanks to the devotion of the local firefighters and many volunteers. The day of concerts and events is capped off with fireworks at dark. In Vankleek Hill, community softball tournament. Come join us and support the Alzheimer Society!

OTTAWA RIVER FESTIVAL
Location: L’Orignal (Champlain Township)

The River comes alive, says the slogan! For the sixth(?) year running, events are presented along the riverfront from Clarence-Rockland (downstream of Ottawa) to Chute-à-Blondeau (next to the Ontario-Québec border). Special events run as of the Wednesday evening, but L’Orignal welcomes the Mustang (and other Ford classics) Poker Run on the road and a family day at its municipal beach on the same day, Sunday, July 2.

JAMBOREE FOR THE VANKLEEK HILL FOOD BANK

A few short years ago, a group organized this one-day music festival to generate funds for the Vankleek Hill Food Bank. This formula struck a chord with music lovers!

HORSE AND BUGGY PARADE AND STRAWBERRY SOCIAL

This horses-and-buggy-only parade harks back to the days when this was the only mode of transport everywhere. Young and old alike are invited to watch on the street. Stroll down to the fairgrounds to taste strawberry delicacies. Yummy!

FESTIVAL OF FLAVOURS

This has been the signature end-of-summer event for close to 20 years. Close to 5,000 people flock on the closed Main Street to buy crafts or various delicacies and then, they get to sit down on a giant table and eat while they listen to entertainment. September 22-23, 2017 - Vankleek Hill
OKTOBERFEST
Location: Vankleek Hill (Champlain Township)

Eastern Ontario has had its own Oktoberfest for sevem years thanks to the creative spirit of local craft brewery Beau’s All Natural Beer. Almost 20,000 people (campers included) made it to the 2015 edition and it just keeps growing! The seven-year fundraising total from this event is $430,600 which is redistributed to local and national organizations.
